Adding a vent to a 1934 Ford Bonnet in Cinema 4D

In this tutorial I demonstrate my workflow for splitting off existing geometry, adding a vent then reattaching the new geometry.

Poly reduction tutorial in depth would be great. I always have issues with it. The car looks great John. Thanks for sharing.

I’ll keep that in mind Mark.

Hi John, great tutorial, and great looking model!

Maybe you could simplify the modelling process by putting one single vent hole inside a Cloner object, which itself would be inside a Connect object to weld every clone, and then by using the Freeform deformer inside the group to give the whole thing its tapered-like overall shape (and adjust it precisely to your ref document). I think it would work. This way, you’d only have to modify one vent hole…

Hi Damien, I’m generally looking for faster ways to use model using cloning and deforming and probably could have done this that way. Thanks for the comment.

    Hi John,

Can you tell me how you were able to normal scale on the Y axis only? When I attempt this, it seems to uniform scale X and Y together.

Hey Andy, did you try scale on the y axis only by dragging the green axis handle?

Hi John, maybe it’s just me, but when I select the normal scale tool the axis handles are not available? so I ended up using the standard scale tool, which obviously does have the axis handles available and scaled in the y axis that way.

Sorry Andy, brain fart on my part. Normal Scale will scale all sides.

Thanks John, thought I was having one of those moments. 🙂
